Hi Greta - your script reads well, and I can already see a nice range of shots coming through your storyboards. I have a hunch that this story has the potential to be a bigger project for you one day...
Okay - so for me, a strong, distinctive visual concept is key for this and I think at the moment you're leaning too heavily on the much-used motifs of a certain Mr Tim Burton - especially in regards to character design etc. Hard as it may seem, I really do want you to push towards something less 'off-the-peg' and think about this story world of yours and its population and all the opportunities it gives you. I'd like to see you thumbnailing lots of little boys - and thinking in terms of making him rather loveable: it's not enough to give him those Burton eyes with the Burton dark circles. I'm just going to give you a bunch of other references to draw upon in order to dilute/challenge the Burton Factor!
In terms of maybe looking at actual actors associated with old horror films, you might want to look at the actor Peter Lorre, who was famous for looking a bit 'odd':

(You could look at things like the size of his forehead and 'haircut' as something to fold into your thoughts about this 'strange little boy').
In more general terms re. art direction, you might want to consider embracing greater stylisation - particularly given your gothic story: have you looked at the original Addams Family television show?
